Tokyo stocks close higher as yen edges lower

Tokyo stocks closed higher on Friday as the yen eased against the dollar on the backdrop of receding trade war worries that boosted US shares.

The Nikkei 225 index closed up 0.82 percent, or 195.00 points, at 23,869.93. Over the week, the index gained 3.36 percent.

The broader Topix index ended up 0.92 percent, or 16.42 points, at 1,804.02. It climbed 4.36 percent over the week.

Tokyo stocks open higher, extending Wall St rallies

Tokyo stocks opened higher on Friday, extending rallies in New York as investors shrugged off trade war worries and focused on positive economic data.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 index was up 0.62 percent, or 146.60 points, at 23,821.53 while the broader Topix index was up 0.58 percent, or 10.31 points, at 1,797.91.

Tokyo Stocks Close Flat After PM Abe’s Win

Tokyo stocks closed flat on Thursday, with traders taking Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s widely expected victory in the party leadership election in their stride.

The Nikkei 225 index closed up just 0.01 percent or 2.41 points at 23,674.93, while the broader Topix index ended up 0.11 percent or 1.94 points at 1,787.60.
