Investors will get an update on retail sales and consumer sentiment, and hear from a couple of Federal Reserve speakers. Markets will also watch for updates on Hurricane Florence, which was already causing havoc on and around the Carolinas coastline.

Dow Jones Industrial Average futures rose 28 points, or 0.1%, to 26,213, while S&P 500 futures  added 3.7 points, or 0.1%, to 2,914. Stronger gains were seen for Nasdaq-100 futures up 25 points, or 0.3%, to 7,618.

Dow Takes Flight as S&P 500, Nasdaq Race Toward 4th Straight Record

Stock benchmarks extended a run-up toward record territory midday Wednesday, as investors bought equities in late-August trade following a multiday advance that has taken the S&P 500 and Nasdaq to fresh all-time highs.

Those gains have been underpinned by progress in trade talks, economic strength — despite some concern about slack in the housing market — and strong corporate results.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed nearly 100 points to 26,164, a gain of 0.4%, trading near its session peak for the day after opening with a slight loss. The S&P 500 index tacked on 17 points, or 0.6%, at 2,915, while the Nasdaq Composite Index  added 71 points, or 0.9%, at 8,100.
