Stock Futures Higher as S&P 500 Takes Aim at a Record

US stock-index futures moved modestly higher on Friday, with major benchmarks set to deliver solid gains for the week and the S&P 500 within striking distance of record territory.

Investors will get an update on retail sales and consumer sentiment, and hear from a couple of Federal Reserve speakers. Markets will also watch for updates on Hurricane Florence, which was already causing havoc on and around the Carolinas coastline.

Dow Jones Industrial Average futures rose 28 points, or 0.1%, to 26,213, while S&P 500 futures  added 3.7 points, or 0.1%, to 2,914. Stronger gains were seen for Nasdaq-100 futures up 25 points, or 0.3%, to 7,618.

U.S. Stock Futures Inch Up as Apple iPhone Event Grabs The Spotlight

U.S. stock futures edged higher Wednesday, signaling the market could build on the prior session’s rally.

Investors are due to get details on Apple Inc.’s latest iPhones, along with a reading on producer prices. They’re also slated to hear from Federal Reserve officials, as well as get the central bank’s beige book report.

Dow Jones Industrial Average futures added 12 points, or less than 0.1%, to 26,014, while S&P 500 futures tacked on 1.20 points, or less than 0.1%, to 2,891. Nasdaq-100 futures rose by 14.50 points, or 0.2%, to 7,526.50.

On Tuesday, the Dow, S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite closed higher Tuesday, with energy and telecom shares helping to lead the way up.

The three gauges have scored year-to-date advances that range from 5.1% to 15%, as of Tuesday’s close.

US Stock Futures Hold Modest Losses After US Gains 201,000 Jobs in August

US stock futures retained modest declines early Friday after a report on employment in the US for August came in near estimates.

Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average were down 0.3% at 25,941, those for the S&P 500 index slipped 0.3% at 2,870, while the Nasdaq-100 futures retreated by 0.5% at 7,417.

In addition to the job gains, the unemployment rate was unchanged at 3.9%. The biggest news was higher worker pay. The average wage paid to American workers rose by 10 cents, or 0.4%, to $ 27.16 an hour, however previous months were cut. The reading likely did little to dissuade the Federal Reserve from lifting interest rates at the conclusion of its two-day policy meeting Sept. 26.
